Sistah Doulas, also known as sister doulas, are doulas who work closely together, often as a team, to provide support to pregnant individuals and their families. My sistah Doulas and I have formed a strong professional partnership. Here are some key aspects of what we do:
1. Pregnancy Support: We offer emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy. This includes prenatal visits, helping to create birth plans, and providing resources for childbirth education.
2. Labor and Birth Assistance: Doula sisters provide continuous support during labor and birth. They offer comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, and positioning suggestions. They also provide reassurance and act as advocates for the birthing person's wishes.
3. Postpartum Care: After the baby is born, doula sisters continue to support the new family. This can include help with breastfeeding, newborn care education, emotional support, and assistance with household tasks to ease the transition.
4. Emotional and Informational Support: We offer a non-judgmental, compassionate presence, listening to concerns and providing evidence-based information to help clients make informed decisions.
5. Team Approach: Working as a duo allows us to offer more comprehensive coverage and support. If one doula is unavailable, the other can step in, ensuring that clients have continuous support throughout their journey.
